News/Event - Booth (GOP) to challenge Skoe (DFL) in Senate 2

According to Brad Swenson (political editor at a local newspaper), The Minnesota GOP will be reconvening its Senate District 2 convention to endorse a previously-run candidate for my area's State Senate seat. It has previously endorsed Doug Lindgren in the race for the 2B district, against DFL incumbent Brita Sailer. The GOP has not yet found a candidate to endorse vs. 2A DFL incumbent Kent Eken. Personally, I think we need a new State Senator in SD2, but I haven't yet seen any good candidates interested in running versus Skoe in a DFL primary, and there is not any sign of a Green or Independent candidate either. Michael Meuers and Ted Fiskevold obstructed and dissuaded former Green Party vice presidential candidate Winona LaDuke from considering a bid for the DFL party endorsement in this district, and I think that justifies any primary bid in this district on this level, and undermines the Hatch and Klobuchar convention endorsements as well (Meuers and Fiskevold were vocal Hatch/Klobuchar supporters, inclined to unfairly manipulate processes and opinions to deliver Hatch/Klobuchar delegates from our area - the DFL's State Constitution & By-Laws committee has introduced some reforms to address abuse by SD chairs in endorsing candidates at their unit level - Meuers was SD 4 chair earlier this cycle).

In a rematch of 2002, Gonvick farmer and former Marine Steve Booth will this fall challenge Sen. Rod Skoe, DFL-Clearbrook.

Booth plans on securing the Republican endorsement to stymie Skoe’s effort at winning a second term when Senate District 2 Republicans hold their endorsing convention 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fosston Civic Center.
