Representative Mark Kennedy's campaign plays silly with security story...

MRW (not REW) has a great piece on Congressman Mark Kennedy's publicity driven website "lockdown": Kennedy's "Precautionary Measures" Stink Of Campaign Stunt. She does a great job of explaining in plain language how they have done nothing credible to react to their claims their website has been compromised.

In the real event your machine is hacked, you unplug it from the network, and call the FBI. Or a competent internet security firm.Or anything other than modify the environment and lose evidence or pretend that nothing is happened. And crying wolf doesn't help. Didn't help Lieberman, won't help Kennedy. This story on has more details, too many details. A google search will yield more...

Hopefully the faux haxoring that either/both Noah Kunin and the Kennedy campaign claim to have perpetrated or suffered from will drive a few interested people into reading up on how to keep their systems more secure. A good place to start is the SANS Reading Room.
