Stopping the War... Eventually

Alec Dubro has a nice piece of analysis on the Iraq War Supplental Funding Measure with the following quote which he calls "Neat, simple, right, morally coherent..."

Tonight, I must make it plain and clear, that as a human being, as a citizen of the world, as a citizen of America, as a member of Congress, and as an individual committed to a world at peace with itself, I will not and cannot vote for another dollar or another dime to support this war.

[John Lewis, D-Ga., senior chief deputy whip]

Call your U.S. House rep right now, or send a quick e-mail, and ask them not to fund this Iraq War Supplemental funding request. Tell them instead to fully fund withdrawal of U.S. dforces from Iraq. Tell them you are appalled at the porkbarrel spending, and the threatening tactics of Nancy Pelosi that have been involved in hustling this toothless bill. Katrina relief, and all of the extra tens of billions of dollars in pork should be able to pass seperately on their own merits in a regular appropriations bill.

I am appalled to see the DailyKos community, and certain other bloggers who are the darlings of the mainstream media, AIPAC, and the defense industry jump on the Clear Skies-style framing of this bullshit Iraq War funding measure, which they have labelled, pathologically, THE SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS AND VETERANS’ HEALTH CARE ACT. It is an emergency appropriations bill to fund the war in Iraq, at the President's request.
